Shining A Light

Eden is proud to continue our support and sponsorship of the Shining a Light art exhibition at Callendar House, The event is celebrating its second year, with works by the most recent cohort of sixth floor artists and designers on public display of Callendar House’s Park Gallery since 20 January.

Shining a Light celebrates design creativity in our schools. Developed from an original idea by Linlithgow and Falkirk based artist and educator Peter J Scott, the exhibition is curated and run by Callendar House’s exhibitions team under the expert eye of exhibition officer Gillian Smith in collaboration with local high schools. Eden designed and supplied the winners’ trophies for the second year, which were presented by Douglas at the Prize-Giving event on Friday, 12 April, at Callendar House. The winners also received gift vouchers for art materials from leading art-supplies retailer Cass Arts.

Featuring strong creative influences in graphic design, fashion, architecture and portraiture, Shining a Light showcases the exceptional artistic talent and impressive standard of creative work of our local young artists, studying advanced Higher in Art and Design in schools across the Falkirk area.

This year’s prize-winning entries were selected by Anna Campbell-Jones from BBC Scotland’s Home of The Year show.

This year’s winning entry was by Eva Robertson, Braes & Larbert High Schools. Eva’s work consists of bold, modernist textural architectural work, showcasing contemporary modernist buildings with a monochromatic palette overlaid with bold colour – very graphic in style.

Second prize was awarded to Carrongrange School with their striking 3-dimensional large multi-media piece. The construction links Grangemouth’s industrial history to the Forth. It consists of stacks of containers – a familiar sight on the Grangemouth skyline. The container doors ingeniously open to reveal local historical references to Grangemouth’s 150-year history concealed inside.

Sarlota Kellnerova from Bo’ness Academy was third, respectively, with her beautifully executed portrait.

This year’s exhibition was showcased by the Falkirk Herald on 6 February.

The Falkirk Herald team were also on hand for the awards ceremony on 12 April and have followed this up with a feature article in the print and online edition of the newspaper.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year’s event.

Paula Carr from Carrongrange High School explains the thinking behind the prize-winning artwork in a brief pause during the awards ceremony on Friday evening.
